Lumps

Lumps is a group of soft sculptures originating from a cancer scare that I had when I found a lump in my breast. At the time, I didn’t have insurance or any idea what to do about it. In response, I made these soft sculptures out of bra cups as a way of getting out my anxiety during that period when I didn’t know how I could address the lump. These are physical manifestations of that ever-present lump that was always on my mind. I finally connected with The Rose, an organization that offers access to screening, diagnostics and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. Cost and lack of access are the main reasons women delay preventive services. However, early detection is the best defense against any cancer. I was able to receive a mammogram and biopsy at no cost and found out the lump was benign.
